Feldenkrais

The Feldenkrais Method is a form of somatic education that incorporates gentle movement and focus to improve movement, range of motion, flexibility and coordination. These improvements will often affect functioning in other aspects of your life.

The Method enables students to become more aware of their chronic muscular tension patterns and stiffness. By increasing awareness to movement, tension patterns, and rigidity, the Feldenkrais Method assists students to release tension and stress to live life more fully, efficiently and comfortably.

At The Art of Control®, we offer individual sessions in Feldenkrais, called "Functional Integration" sessions, which give you an opportunity to explore your own healing and recovery with one-on-one attention, and in a class format, called Awareness Through Movement. During group classes, the Feldenkrais teacher will verbally lead students through a sequence of movements in basic positions: sitting or lying on the floor, standing or sitting in a chair. We are excited to offer individual Feldenkrais sessions and Awareness Through Movement Classes with Tamala Bakkensen on Wednesdays, here at The Art of Control®. Through this Method, you can improve range of motion, increase flexibility and coordination, and improve efficiency in daily activities. Through greater self-awareness in areas of chronic tension patters you have the option to release these patterns and create more freedom in how you move and feel. By increasing sensitivity and self-awareness, Feldenkrais sessions and classes assist you to live your life more fully, efficiently and comfortably.

Tamala

About Tamala
Tamala Bakkensen holds a BFA in theater and music from Florida International University and a Master's of Fine Art from the University of California, San Diego. She has performed in regional theater, in New York, and on television, as well as traveled to Bali to study dance and mask making. A graduate of the Feldenkrais Institute in New York, she teachers public classes at the institute and works one on one with private clients. She has also taught movement with the School for Film and Television.
